As the first city in Scotland to benefit from Gigabit-capable full-fibre broadband thanks to the new Vodafone and CityFibre Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) programme, Aberdeen is becoming a beacon of digital transformation.
The city’s existing 100km network – which was launched in 2015 to serve Aberdeen’s business community – is being expanded citywide to reach nearly every home and business in the city. ITCC’s remit is to work alongside the civil contractors, installing blown fibre and fibre trunk cables between road side splicing stations and main fibre junctions within the city.
It has been a quick learning curve for the ITCC team, as we are not only installing FTTH, but we are also working on Business and Public Sector Networks within the area. Having to invest in specialist equipment and training courses has allowed ITCC to venture into this market and to establish ourselves as market leaders in FTTH installations.
In December 2018, the first homes began to access Gigabit speed broadband services of up to 1000mbps from Vodafone and the first businesses are able to connect and enjoy the same from a range of specialist business providers.
So it is Full speed ahead at the moment !
